Guidelines

Every Forum member is responsible for this information:

1.) Respect.

Speak respectfully. Think about your words. You as writers should know that words are powerful things! Words can wound. Words can heal. Please use them for the latter. (I'm not talking about flattery or empty, sugary speech. That doesn't do anyone any good.) Be encouraging and, when needed, use restraint.

This forum must be a place free from debating 1) highly-charged political issues, or 2) gay marriage /same-sex issues. These two areas have proven to be too divisive, and there are other places where such things are more productively discussed.

Please refrain from making any posts, comments, or other content related to politics or sexual preferences/identities.

2.) Please do not make Subject lines that are misleading. For example:

Subject: "My house is on fire!"

Accompanying post: "JK. I just wanted you to all check out my first chapter and give me feedback."

3.) Please do not clutter up RD with meaningless posts.

Example: What's your favorite amoeba shape?

4.) Subject lines that are too vague. Examples:

a.) Subject: "Hey everybody!"

Accompanying post: "I'm bored."

-- Go ahead and put in the subject line, "I'm bored, anyone want to chat?" or "I'm bored, any ideas?"

Please be specific so that others have at least a general idea of what the topic is about.

b.) Subject: "This is interesting!"

Be specific in the Subject line. What is interesting? Examples:

"An interesting article on pandemics in history"

"An interesting article on alternate history science fiction"

"My thoughts on artificial intelligence"

c.) Subject: "Watch this!"

Accompanying post: "here's a cool video - (youtube link)"

-- If you want to post a link to a video or article, be specific about what it is in the Subject line. Example:

Subject: "A video of me at the skateboard park."

No external links to inappropriate content.

5.) Please do not post topics that are absolutely useless in every way. For example:

Subject: "I'm being eaten by an alligator!"

Accompanying post: "Ha ha, made you look!"

6.) Make sure you're posting in the proper Board.

A "Let's discuss the symbolism in Runt the Brave" should be in Book Discussions, not Random Disc.

A suggestion for improving the Forum - that you want to address to me or the Mr. should be posted in the "Suggestions and Feedback" board. A suggestion that you want to address to EVERYONE on the forum may fit well in RD.

7.) Delete your own topic IF.

If your topic is one that is useful only temporarily, please delete it when it's no longer needed.

For example: Topic: "I'm going to be gone for 3 days."

After you return, read all your adoring fans' posts and then delete that puppy! Don't make me pick up everyone's virtual clothes left on the Forum floor.

8.) Help Newbies

Mainly an attitude thing. Have a "mentor" frame of mind, and not one of "superiority".

9.) Helpful Answers

I'd like to thank everyone who has posted helpful responses to other people's questions. Especially in "Ask the Teacher". Of course, no one is obligated to respond, but Mr. S. and I both appreciate greatly those of you who've taken the time to answer or give your input/perspective on these questions! Please feel free to do so any time you like.

10.) Ask the Teacher Board

Please use the Search function to help you see if your question has already been asked. Also, a few minutes looking through old AtT threads may well answer the question without need for a new topic, saving everyone time and effort. If, after looking through old questions, you feel that your question has not been answered, or needs further clarification, then you may create a new topic for your question. Thanks!

11.) Use the "Report to moderator" link if necessary.

If you see a post that is rude or in any way inappropriate, PLEASE report it. There is NO way I can, or will, read every post on the Forum. If you're unsure about whether or not to report a post, go ahead and report it. I can take a look at it and make a decision from there.

12.) Condescending Remarks

This is important. Please do NOT be arrogant and condescending. I assure you this is a sign of immaturity. (in people of ANY age). This is really an attitude/heart issue. Do not use speech like, "Your arguments are remedial. Clearly you are an idiot with a squirrel's brain." Intentionally making other people feel inferior does not mean you are intelligent.

Our goal is to make the Forum an awesome place for you guys! We hope this forum proves to be a helpful resource in many ways, a place to grow as a writer, and an enjoyable place to visit with each other. We do care about you. (and like you!)

Enjoy!

Thanks so much!

❤️ Mrs. S.
